First Parish in Lexington

Last June, 11 youth and 4 adults from First Parish journeyed to Pine Ridge, a Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, for a service learning trip. Come hear from our youth and their advisors about what they learned, how their understanding of Native American history has grown, and what the people of Pine Ridge want the rest of the world to know about their way of life, history, and future.

Sarah Hager will be our guest pianist and organist for worship. She will be joined by our tenor soloist Austin Burns. Austin will sing Olive Dungen’s reverent “Eternal Life: The Prayer of St. Francis” and “Singer of Life,” a Native American song based on a Texcoco Nahuatl Poem. For the piano music during the service, Sarah will play Sara Thomsen’s lyrical “Meditation on Mni Wičoni,” Kyle Minthorn’s powerful “Water Horse Suite” and a traditional Native American “Shoshone Love Song.” For the prayer time, Ben Soule will play a mediation on Native American flute.

There will be Sunday school for the primary class, Pre-K through 2nd grades. Grades 3rd through 8th will stay for the service. The nursery will be open for infants and toddlers.
