Wisdom from the Heartland

“By the time she reached 9th grade, Sarah Smarsh had attended 8 schools. Moving constantly was one of the hallmarks of being born to a poor farming family who lived for 5 generations in  Kansas.”
This morning Rev. Anne will explore a story of the Heartland which just might help us understand a fraction of the troubles encountered by people of Integrity like Sarah Smarsh.

Music for this Sunday

This Sunday, as we uplift poverty justice, the sanctuary choir and soloists will sing music from the hit musical Les Misérables and Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. There will be 3 songs from Les Mis. Soloist Nate Ramsayer will sing the poignant “Empty Chairs and the sanctuary choir will sing the fiery “At the End of the Day” and passionate “Do You Hear the People Sing?” with soloists Julia Jaffe, David Meharry and Toni Tasker. The choir will also sing Mac Huff’s uplifting arrangement of “If We Only Have Love” (from Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris). For the centering music, Rip Jackson will play J. S. Bach’s majestic “Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 654” on the 1898 Hutchins tracker pipe organ.
