Adult Programs We offer a variety of programs for Adults at First Parish as part of a life-long exploration of religious truth, meaning and experience. We are a community committed to this continuous journey. We all work to provide each other an environment of trust, acceptance, and encouragement as we shape our beliefs, celebrate our discoveries, and live our values. Our programs work to encourage personal and spiritual growth, lifelong learning and build a caring community within and outside our church. We offer programs in spirituality, personal growth, social justice, fellowship, creativity and many more areas. We also offer monthly Religious Education for All Ages that all adults are welcome to participate in.

Soul Matters Groups

Soul Matters These small groups engage with our monthly themes, led by our Soul Matters facilitators. As a group, the monthly time together is spent in reflection and discussion to deepen understanding of our shared faith as a community, as well as to support individuals in their own spiritual paths. To join a Soul Matters Group, contact our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Lisa Maria Steinberg.

Meditation Group

singing-bowl This is a drop-in group that meets on Thursdays from 4:00-5:00pm. The format includes quiet meditation for 30 minutes followed by a brief reading by a group member and time for conversation.

Legacies of the Heart

Legacies of the Heart First Parish member Meg Newhouse will offer a half day workshop November 5 on Legacies of the Heart with the possibility of a small group to continue. The interactive workshop will introduce a fresh and powerful perspective on legacy as the ongoing imprint of your life and gift forward to succeeding generations.

Non-Fiction Book Group

This group meets on a monthly basis, usually on Wednesday evenings, for discussions about non fiction books.  Some of the books from the past year have included:

The Boys in the Boat, Reclaiming Conversation, The Wright Brothers.

The scheduled book for the fall is The Invisible History of the Human Race – How DNA and History Shape Our Identities and Our Futures by Christine Kenneally

For more information, please contact our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Lisa Maria Steinberg.

Small Group Potlucks

These potlucks occur in members homes on a monthly basis.  Twice a year, people are encouraged to sign up, stating their preferred day of the week and whether children will be included.  Those who signup are then assigned to one of several groups of 8-10 people.  The people in a group then gather for a potluck dinner in a member’s home once a month for four months.  The same people remain in each group for the four months.  These are a great way to connect with people others whom they may not know well.

Creative Callings (Fiber Arts Group)

This is a drop-in group that meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays every month at 2:15-3:45. Bring your knitting, quilting, crocheting or other handwork project you are working on to this time of fellowship and shared creativity.
