Music in Worship
Welcome to First Parish’s Music Program page! Our congregation shares a vision for worship in which people of many different backgrounds and beliefs come together in wonder, celebration, praise, meditation, sorrow, and reverence. We draw from a wide variety of musical styles and cultures to help create the sacred space in which inclusive communal worship can take place.
Our volunteer Sanctuary Choir is augmented by four professional section leaders. Our Music Director, Rip Jackson, conducts the choir and works closely with the Minister to create meaningful liturgies. He is also a talented, creative organist and pianist who is proficient in many styles of music.
We have a vibrant children’s choir and we often create opportunities for instrumentalists in the congregation to share their talent with us during worship. In addition, the Music Program at First Parish is involved in the life of the community at large, and sponsors a concert series. This Fall we presented a joyful Folk Concert to a packed audience. On May 15th we will present a choral and instrumental concert of music from the African Diaspora. The concert will feature gospel music, spirituals, South African freedom songs, instrumental jazz music, African drumming and other music from Africa.
