Throughout the year, there are special services which have become traditional at First Parish. The church year officially begins in September, the Sunday after Labor Day, with an ingathering. At this service, congregants are asked to bring a small vial of water which is from or representative of their summer vacations. Every family pours their water into a common fount to be used for child dedications throughout the year.

Traditionally the minister offers at the Fall Auction the opportunity for a parishioner to bid on and ask the minister to preach on a topic of his/her choice.

First Parish participates with other Lexington churches in a special town wide Thanksgiving service held the Tuesday prior. This service takes place on a rotating basis at one of the Lexington houses of worship.

During December the holidays are celebrated with a Music Sunday, celebrating the Solstice and the Christmas Story. There are readings and special music. And before Christmas there is a special worship service where children and adults are invited to participate in an unrehearsed nativity pageant for all ages, with carols and other holiday music. The culmination of the holiday services is the traditional Christmas Eve Service. There is an early service for families with younger children and a later service which ends with youth of First Parish leading the congregation in spreading candlelight throughout the sanctuary.
