Our community

The Vision of First Parish is to be:
A beacon of hope, love, and joy on the Lexington Green.
A diverse, intergenerational beloved community where we find the support, courage, and
inspiration to act within, among, and beyond our congregation with compassion, equity, and
justice.

MISSION: We are a Spiritual Community raising our Voices and Values in LOVE and ACTION, STORY and SONG.

Our Covenant

We seek to learn from all who have come to share their journey with us and will engage all in a spirit of curiosity and inclusion. We covenant to welcome one another by:
· Wearing name tags and greeting one another warmly
· Seeking new connections and inviting conversations at every opportunity
· Welcoming what others have to teach us with compassion and intentionality
· Sharing our faith and our questions
· Engaging our common ground and exploring our differences

We explore our own spiritual transformation and leadership by deepening our faith and actively challenging injustice where it exists in our community and culture. We covenant to actively confront our assumptions and deepen our understanding of:
· Diverse sources of inspiration and wisdom
· UU theology and traditions
· Forces that advantage or disadvantage individuals and groups
· Discriminatory behavior in our community

We encourage all to share their truth and challenge ourselves to grow, by lovingly keeping one another accountable to our values. We covenant to work with one another to build healthy relationships by:
· Engaging with one another in faithful companionship
· Responding to one another with openness, compassion, and care
· Resolving conflicts directly
· Calling ourselves and each other back to love

We will hold ourselves accountable for fulfilling our promises and commit ourselves to work together. We covenant to set goals for justice, equity and inclusion and fulfill them by:
· Listening deeply to our community partners, and pledging to show up in the way we are asked
· Embracing the plurality of our cultural and faith traditions as a sign of our strength
· Finding commonality wherever we can
· Being intentional in creating space for connection

We support one another with compassion and recognize the gifts of time, talent and treasure our community shares within our congregation and beyond. We covenant to care for one another by:
· Sharing our joys, sorrows, and rites of passage across generations
· Enjoying times we gather together
· Serving our congregation with generosity and good humor
· Publicly acknowledging the contributions of our volunteers, lay leaders, and staff
· Making time to come together to experience the joy of liberatory community
