Join First Parish in Lexington for Jams for Justice—a powerful celebration of music, dance, artistry, social justice and community spirit—on Sunday, May 18, at 3:30 PM. Under the direction of Rip Jackson, this inspiring concert will feature an eclectic mix of Broadway, pop, jazz, and soul-stirring music performed by the First Parish Sanctuary and Youth Choirs, gifted soloists, and an electrifying 11-piece Jazz band. This event will spotlight talented music, dance and visual artists from Greater Boston’s African and Black artistic and cultural communities: multi-instrumentalist Akili Jamal Haynes, actor and vocalist Janelle Grace, and liturgical dancer Senora Cha-Cha Epps. Immediately after the concert, attendees are invited to the Opening of Changing Hearts | Changing Minds, a vibrant art exhibit, featuring the work of 4 visual artists: Jaypix Belmer, L’Merchie Frazier, Khalid Kodi, and Hakim Raquib. Admission is free, with a suggested free-will offering. All donations will go directly to support the UU Urban Ministry—a Roxbury-based, nonsectarian nonprofit with a nearly 200-year legacy of working for racial, economic, and social justice. The ministry provides vital programs in education, housing, and life skills, with a mission focused on dismantling racism and promoting equity and empowerment.
