First Parish in Lexington

Ever wonder what our faith looks like around the world? Did you even know U/U exists outside North America and Transylvania? Well, our diverse, vibrant, global faith has a lot to offer and teach us if we are willing to listen.

Rev. Sara Ascher has been a Unitarian Universalist her entire life. After graduating from Andover Newton Theological School in 2000 with a Masters of Divinity she spent the next 16 years serving Unitarian Universalist congregations in the United States. She now works with our global faith community as the Executive Director of the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists (ICUU).

This Sunday, the sanctuary choir at First Parish will sing music from South Africa. For the anthem and offertory, they will sing the passionate Zulu song “Ukuthula” (“In this painful world, we find peace through love”) with soloist Elizabeth Walsh and the lyrical South African Freedom song “Khutso” (“peace”) with soloists Julia Jaffe and Toni Tasker. For the introit and postlude, the choir will sing (and dance!) the joyful Sotho anthem “Ga Gona” (“There is nobody like Jesus”) and the spirited South African Freedom song “Siyahamba” (“We are marching”). For the centering music, Rip Jackson will play Schubert’s gentle “Andante” (from Piano Sonata in A Major, D 664).

There will be Sunday school classes for grades Pre-K through eight. The nursery will be open for infants and toddlers.
