pride-parade The Social Action Ministry (SAM)  at First Parish flows from our Unitarian Universalist faith based on the values of love, justice, community and responsibility. We do this within the supportive environment of our broader church community and the mission of First Parish: “…to act on our values to serve the larger community and create a more just and loving world.”

Be the Change In addition, we partner with other Lexington faith communities on projects of mutual concern.  Annually, on Martin Luther King Day there are town wide activities and many of our members are involved in planning these and many other join in on them.  Our activities are both educational and action oriented. We sponsor workshops on areas of concern and become involved in providing service and advocating for social change.

There are church wide activities such as a monthly offering to a charity, and an annual “Day of Service” and letter writing for Amnesty International. In addition, there are service projects which individuals and groups of parishioners become involved with.  These are supported by the Social Action Ministry.

The SAM meets regularly on Sundays after church and all are invited to share concerns and suggest projects.
