criminal_justice_reformMembers of First Parish are working with neighboring UU Churches and other organizations to end the mass incarceration for non-violent crimes that has so disproportionately impacted Black and Latino youth and families. In the past few years there has been growing awareness about US prison problems and the failure of the “war on drugs.” This has resulted in hugely disproportionate numbers of imprisoned US citizens leading to the breakup of families and the problems of reintegrating to society for prisoners.

We have sponsored speakers and discussions of Just Mercy and The new Jim Crow, We have participated in the Jobs Not Jails campaign and we continue to lobby the state legislature to enact laws that will do away with the Mandatory Minimum for drug offenses and improve the reentry process.
