Through the generosity of Bruce and Eva Gordon, long-time Lexington residents, humanitarians, and members of First Parish in Lexington, the Good Samaritan Fund was established “…to provide financial awards to needy individuals.” In offering guidance on the selection of individuals to receive these awards, the donors stipulate that the major beneficiaries be those people whose lives would be significantly improved with modest amounts of money, such as senior persons needing specific medical aids or other items, refugees needing a first month’s rent or food, a special gift for a disabled child, or a first year scholarship for a person who would otherwise be unable to attend college or technical school.

The Social Action Committee of First Parish would like to announce the next wave of these awards with an application deadline of June 8, 2024. Selected recipients will be notified before June 30th.  Late applications will be considered in the subsequent grant cycle. If you are aware of any individuals or families who qualify based on the Gordon terms reproduced above, please encourage them to apply.

Please attach the following documents:

  1. A letter of reference from a social worker, case worker, clergy person, etc. who knows the applicant and can vouch for the need and the financial hardship of the applicant. Letter should be written on institution or department letterhead.
  2. Documentation of the estimated cost of this request such as a bill, a bid, a quote for work, etc.
  3. Documentation of financial need via first page of federal or state tax return from previous year.
